Some cars exist solely because of racing, like the Ford GT or the Porsche Carrera GT. However, even though I doubt that Toyota's latest creation from its performance division will ever end up in showrooms, it remains no less impressive.
To compete in the Supercars Championship, which will begin in 2026, Toyota has fitted a V8 engine to its legendary Supra. The most ironic part is that this engine is in-house, unlike the 4- and 6-cylinder engines, which come from BMW.
The Supra for the Supercars Championship will be powered by the 2UR-GSE V8, the same engine found under the hood of the Lexus IS-F, RC-F, GS-F, and LC500. For now, all we know is that it will retain its 5.0-liter displacement, but power and torque figures have not yet been revealed.
Ready for Competition
Toyota intends to run at least four cars in the Supercars series. It has already been announced that two cars will be supported by the Andretti United team, as indicated in a recent press release from the brand.
A Legendary Model
As for the production Supra, a V8 is not on the table. In fact, Toyota has even removed the 4-cylinder engine from its lineup. Thus, the 2025 Supra offers only one mechanical option: a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine producing 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. You can then choose between an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual.
The 2025 Toyota Supra starts at $72,566.50, which is clearly not within everyone's budget. However, it's an exceptional performance car. Enthusiasts are clamoring for it, even though the car shares many components with the BMW Z4. In fact, it's important to understand that the return of the Supra would never have been possible without BMW's help, and for that, I believe we should be grateful. In my opinion, the Toyota Supra remains one of the most interesting sports cars on the market today.
